R.I.P. Hoppy

I feel so bad today....Hoppy (aka Mr. Hopski) went to Rainbow Bridge last night around eight o'clock.
Mom noticed he didn't eat in the morning and then was sick to his stomach all day. Just laid around, but that's not unusual for him. He wouldn't even react when I tried to play with him.
Mom is still crying - Hoppy was with us for just over a year and he was up in age, but that doesn't make things any easier. I'm glad that mom was able to make Hoppy's last year a good one, she loved him so much. She never had more than one dog at a time, so we could really be a challenge for her some days, but we never had to worry that she didn't love us and would always take care of us.
Rest in peace, Mr. Hopski.....relax at Rainbow Bridge, we'll be together again some day. I loved you from the day I met you and I'll always remember you.

Thought For Today

Birds of a feather flock together....and crap on your car.

God's Garden Must Be Beautiful

God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped His arms
around you,
And whispered, "Come to Me".
You didn't deserve what you went through,
So He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only picks the best.
And when I saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain,
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again.

A Stump For a Tail

You can't buy loyalty, they say
I bought it though, the other day;
You can't buy friendship, tried and true,
Well just the same, I bought that too.
I made my bid, and on the spot
Bought love and faith and a whole job lot
Of happiness, so all in all
The purchase price was pretty small.
I bought a single trusting heart,
That gave devotion from the start.
If you think these things are not
for sale, Buy a brown-eyed puppy with
A stump for a tail.

Heaven's Doggie Door

My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.
The thoughts that scurried through mty head,
As I cradled him in my arms
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And OH...his many charms.

Today, there was no gentle nudge,
With an intense "I love you" gaze.
Only a heart that's filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.
But an angel just appeared to me,
And he said "You should cry no more,
God also loves our canine friends,
He's installed a "doggy-door"!

If You Can... Unknown Author

If you can resist treating a rich friend better than a poor friend,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can honestly that deep in your heart you have no prejudice against creed, color, religion, or politics,
Then, my friend, you are almost as good as your dog.

The Little Brown Book of Anecdotes - Winston Churchill

One evening at Chequers the film was Oliver Twist. Rufus, as usual, had the best seat in the house, on his master's lap. At the point when Bill Sikes was about to drown his dog to put the police off his track, Churchill covered Rufus's eyes with his hand. He said, "Don't look now, dear. I'll tell you about it afterwards".

Winston Churchill, The Little Brown Book of Anecdotes

From Anne Tyler, The Accidental Tourist

I've always thought a hotel ought to offer optional small animals. I mean, a cat to sleep on your bed at night, or a dog of some kind to act pleased when you come in. You ever notice how a hotel room feels so lifeless?

Cat Bed In The Sky

I thought that you might like to know I got here safe and sound
Though you must feel rather strange not having me around;
Of course, I am not really gone, I've just moved out of sight,
And I don't need that old body, things had stopped working right

Sometimes I'm sorely tempted, to pop back down and see,
Just how you are managing, without any help from me.
But I'm sure that you will understand, I can't come back to stay,
Though I have it on good authority that we'll meet again some day.

The chow up here's delicious - Ambrosia brand, it's named.
Once you tasted this stuff, Friskies won't taste the same.
And where do they get this nectar, which thick and creamy comes,
It's not like other dairy products cos it don't give me the runs.

I haven't found the litter tray, and THIS perplexes me,
That however much I wolf down, I never have to pee.
But there are other plus points, which cannot be ignored
My claws have all come back again and there are drapes here to be torn

Another little oddity that leaves me quite astounded,
Underneath my tail end are two lumps, furry and rounded -
I can't remember having them, when I lived down there with you
And up here, all I can say, I've not figured out their use.

Oh yes, I've got a comfy bed, just like mine down there at home,
So things here are quite adequate, I cannot gripe or groan;
But while I'm up here waiting, in my cat bed in the sky,
I'll regularly look in on you, and keep a watchful eye.

Quote by Steve Bluestone

Did you ever notice when you blow in a dog's face he gets mad at you? But when you take him in a car he sticks his head out the window!

Quote from David Letterman

Number one way life would be different if dogs ran the world; all motorists must drive with head out the window.

David Letterman

Belly Up

I lie belly-up
In the sunshine, happier than
You ever will be.

Today I sniffed
Many dog butts - I celebrate
By kissing your face.

I sound the alarm!
Paperboy - come to kill us all -
Look! Look! Look! Look! Look!

I sound the alarm!
Garbage man - come to kill us all -
Look! Look! Look! Look! Look!

I left my leg and
Whiz on each bush. Hello, Spot -
Sniff this and weep.

I hate my choke chain -
Look, world, they strangle me! Ack
Ack Ack Ack Ack Ack!

Sleeping here, my chin
On your foot - no greater bliss - well,
Maybe catching cats.

Look in my eyes and
Deny it. No human could
Love you as much as I do.

Quote from Monica Piper

I like driving around with my two dogs, especially on the freeways. I make them wear little hats so I can use the carpool lanes.

Quote from Dave Barry...

Dogs feel very strongly that they should always go with you in the car, in case the need should arise for them to bark violently at nothing right in your ear.

The Thrill of the Hunt - by Awnhel the Cat (Ms Radko's Cousin)

It's really tough being in a family of three cats...you always have to be on your guard to make sure you are getting your share of the attention. Mostly I let Squeeky and Mew have their own way, but sometimes I get really fed up with those two. Take Squeeky....she can get really bossy when she wants her own way. And Mew....he's so chubby when he rolls over on his back he needs help getting turned over again! Sqeeky acts like she was here first, but she came after I took up residence...she was a stray that my mom felt sorry for and took in. Mew is another one...a stray that took advantage of mom's soft heart.
Anyway, I'll let them tell you stories another time...this spot is mine tonite!
It was really the thrill of the hunt last nite...I could hear the pitter patter of those tiny feet in the hallway.....I sneaked up.....and POUNCED! Let out a big growl (try THAT with a mouse in your mouth!) and headed to mom's room with my prize....all the while Sneeky and Mew were at the other end of the hallway just watching the action. You'd think they never saw a mouse before in their life!
Mom was upset with us last nite, can't understand why because we are always so loveable. She threatened to throw us all out, so I thought I'd better prove how much she needs me around by catching that silly little mouse.
Squeeky and Mew can worry about their own futures...I have enough work earning my own keep. But did mom appreciate it? NAAAHHHHHHH!
I was going to take the mouse to mom, but remembered how much she dislikes surprises...she heard all the growling and awoke anyway. She didn't appreciate the mouse at all....after all that work, would you believe she just flushed it down the toilet? The NERVE!!! I thought for SURE she would have it mounted and put on the bookcase. Or at least the head like hunters do with the deer they get..... Oh well.

Quote of The Day - Dave Barry

Sometimes you panic and find yourself emitting remarks so profoundly inane that you would be embarrassed to say them to your dog. Your dog would look at you and think to itself, "I may lick myself in public, but I'd never say anything as stupid as that."

Story of My Life - By Hoppy

I've been asked to write my memoirs but being a senior dog my brain just isn't what it used to be. I'll tell you what I do remember....
I am a miniature poodle and have lived with my mom since I was a little ball of fluff. I'm told I am about thirteen years old now. I came to live with ms Radko and her mom back in September of 2008...my mom came here a few months later. I'd say we have it pretty darned good here...except Ms Radko likes to pick on me. I know she's still a kid, but geesh..... Sometimes I growl back at her when I'm tired and don't want to be pestered...she backs off quick when I do that. Doesn't stop her though...she just tries it again.
Ms Radko follows my mom around all the time....I don't get much quality time with mom these days. But that's okay...as long as she's happy, I'm happy!
My picture was taken back in January of this year....a pretty handsome guy if I do say so myself!

REMEMBER OUR LOVE

I was chosen today
I'm learning to fly,
The world took me away,
but please don't you cry.

And I chose you today
to try and be strong
So please don't you cry
and don't say that I'm gone.

When you're feeling alone,
just remember our love.
I'm up near the stars,
looking down from above.

Remember our love,
In a moment you'll see...
that I'm still here beside you
When you're thinking of me.

Dear Diary 7/1/09

Dear Diary...today is the first official day of my blog! I am so excited! I hope I find lots of things to write about and make lots of friends along the way. Cousin Hoppy, a mini poodle, is jealous I think because he just sits in the corner and pouts. I'm sure he'll get over it! Hoppy is a senior dog....he is about thirteen years old and moved in here with us in September 2008. When he first came to live with us, he needed some major vet care which my mom took care of...and I know he is thankful for. I try to play with him, but he just doesn't want to be bothered :o(
I hit him on the head with my paw and he growls at me, so I go around the back and swat him on his behind....I love to aggravate him *hehe*

Quote from John Holmes

"A dog is 'almost human' and I know of no greater
insult to the canine race than to describe it as such."

God Bless Our Pets

They say memories are golden,
well, maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.

A million times I needed you,
a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
you never would have died.

In life I loved you dearly,
in death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
no one could ever fill.

If tears could build a stairway
and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to heaven
and bring you back again.

Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.

With Angels They Play

They haven't really been taken away;
They have only gone with the Angels to play.
They have been given wings with which to fly;
All their troubles have passed them by.

Their life in heaven now must start;
But we'll hold their memory in our hearts
Nothing about them will be forgotten;
But now they sleep on billowy clouds of cotton.

Time is too slow for those who wait,
Too swift for those who fear,
Too long for those who grieve,
Too short for those who rejoice.
But for those who love, Time is not.
